Randall Gay intercepted three passes and Troy Vincent had three sacks to lead Albany (1‑1). Albany’s Trent Green and Daunte Culpepper of Washington (1‑1) each threw three touchdown passes. Rosevelt Colvin had 14 tackles for the losers.

Pittsburgh (2‑0) got a 7-yard touchdown pass from Chad Pennington to Kevin Curtis with 1:45 left to overcome New York (0‑2). New York had taken the lead with 3:15 to go on Brad Hoover’s second touchdown of the game. Curtis also had two scores.

B.J. Sams returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown to put Connecticut (1‑1) in front for good in the first quarter. Their lead eventually grew to 34-6 before Richmond (0‑2) scored a couple of fourth quarter touchdowns to make the final score respectable.

Drew Brees threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns as Delaware (2‑0) rallied with 21 unanswered third quarter points. A scoring pass from Brees to Daniel Graham put Syracuse (1‑1) behind for good. Larry Foote had 15 tackles for the Syracuse defense.

After falling behind 26‑21, Philadelphia (2‑0) drove 79 yards in 15 plays for a Jamal Lewis touchdown run with 1:15 remaining to nip Providence (1‑1). Brett Favre passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns for the winners, good for a passing rating of 156.9.

Antonio Gates caught nine passes for 123 yards and Tiki Barber scored twice to lead Atlantic City (1‑1). For Baltimore (0‑2), offensive tackle Shane Olivea recovered teammate Drew Bledsoe’s fumble and rumbled 74 yards for a fourth quarter touchdown.
