Jonathan Smith returned two second quarter Mike Scifres punts for touchdowns to ignite the blowout win for Richmond (3‑5) over Atlantic City (4‑4). The winners intercepted three Kyle Boller passes. Tiki Barber rushed for 142 yards in the losing cause.

New York (3‑5) scored all 21 points in the first half and kept Connecticut (4‑4) scoreless until the game’s last seven minutes. Jerome Bettis ran for 138 yards and caught a 6-yard Jake Delhomme scoring pass. The winners picked off three Tom Brady passes.

Chad Lewis scored on a 9-yard pass from Brett Favre with 1:37 to go to give Philadelphia (4‑4) the win over Washington (6‑2). The winning drive took 2:36 and covered 87 yards in nine plays. Jamal Lewis ran for 106 yards on 18 carries.

In the easy victory by Providence (6‑2), Larry Johnson ran for 114 yards, Marc Bulger threw for 304 yards, and Torry Holt caught two touchdown passes. Baltimore (3‑5) fell behind early on a Johnson scoring reception and trailed throughout.

Delaware (5‑3) was the beneficiary of five takeaways and 130 yards in Albany (4‑4) penalties but still needed a 28-yard John Kasay field goal with 0:22 left to pull out the victory. Lito Sheppard intercepted three Trent Green passes including the last.

Syracuse (2‑6) burst out to a 31‑10 lead late in the first half and held off Pittsburgh (4‑4) to end their six game losing streak. Patrick Ramsey threw three touchdown passes, two to Javon Walker. Jerry Wilson had a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown.
